Soap

Dove, Cetaphil, or Neutrogena – Use mild, nonabrasive soap

Hibiclens (chlorhexidine) – antibacterial soap as directed if tolerated

Gauze pads

Band-Aid – Use to gently dab dry your surgical site after washing with soap and water and to apply vinegar soaks

03.

White vinegar

Natural Earth organic white vinegar (acetic acid) soak solution – Use to clean your surgery site after washing with soap and water

  • How to make vinegar soak solution: Dilute 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in 2 cups of water (store this solution in the refrigerator after use)

Cotton-tipped applicators

Q-tips – Use to apply Vaseline or Aquaphor ointment

05.

Petrolatum ointment

Aquaphor or Vaseline – Helps surgical site well-hydrated

  • Do not use Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic products because these products commonly cause allergic reactions
06.

Non-adherent pads

Telfa – Does not adhere to skin and is beneficial for healing

07.

Medical paper tape

3M Nexcare – Paper tape is less reactive if you have an adhesive sensitivity or allergy

08.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and/or ibuprofen (Motrin)

Tylenol and/or Motrin – Take over-the-counter as directed if tolerated for discomfort and/or pain

09.

Arnica gel

Arnicare – Apply directly to bruised skin as directed if tolerated to decrese bruising

10.

Bromelain (pineapple extract)

Bromelain – Take over-the-counter as directed if tolerated to decrease bruising

11.

Pineapple juice

Dole – Drink 1 cup per day if tolerated to decrease bruising
